  • Rams score win on road

    RED OAK - The Glenwood boys basketball team opened 2015 with a 58-45 win over Red Oak Friday in Hawkeye 10 Conference play.

    The win snapped a two-game losing skid for the Rams (3-4 overall, 2-4 in Hawkeye 10 Conference).

    “It’s huge,” said Glenwood coach Curt Schulte after the game. “You go on break for two weeks and it’s important you come in that first game and get that win and get some momentum and get some confidence going into Tuesday’s game against Clarinda.”

  • Glenwood falls at Red Oak, 50-46

    RED OAK – Micayla Taylor’s pair of three pointers in the final three minutes lifted Red Oak to a 50-46 come-from-behind victory over Glenwood in Hawkeye 10 Conference girls basketball Friday.

    Taylor, a senior guard, proved to be the difference in the game thanks to her two three-pointers coming from the exact same spot at the top of the key just a minute apart. Taylor had a season-high 10 points for the night.

  • East Mills offense struggles in...

    MALVERN - East Mills scored a season-low two first-quarter points and that was just one of the offensive low points for the Wolverines in a 32-26 loss to Griswold Friday in a non-conference boys basketball showdown.

    The Wolverines (5-2 overall, 5-1 in the Corner Conference) 26 points were a season-low – their fewest in a game since a 45-28 loss to Underwood Dec. 2, 2010 – as were their 24 field goal attempts, 11 field goal makes and six free throw attempts. They also had a season-high 19 turnovers in a rough-and-tumble post-Christmas break loss.

  • Malcom wins title at C.B....

    COUNCIL BLUFFS - Matt Malcom capped a perfect weekend with an individual title at the second annual Council Bluffs Wrestling Classic at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs Saturday.

    Malcom, a junior, pinned Atlantic’s Reid Nichols in 1:31 to win the 152-pound weight class. Malcom entered the day ranked No. 4 at 152-pounds in Class 3A and remains undefeated on the season.

  • Fremont-Mills wins fourth...

    The Fremont-Mills boys basketball team won its fourth straight game with a 45-40 victory over Nishnabotna in Corner Conference action Friday.

    The Knights (4-1 overall, 4-0 in the conference) overcame a sluggish first quarter in which both teams combined for just nine points to pull away for the win thanks to its defense. In five games this season, no Knight opponent has eclipsed 60 points.

  • Creston comeback sinks Glenwood

    Creston erased an eight-point fourth quarter lead to hand Glenwood a 46-44 loss in the Rams’ home opener Friday in Hawkeye 10 Conference boys basketball.

    The Panthers (2-0 overall, 1-0 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) out-scored the Rams (1-1 overall, 0-1 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) 19-7 in the fourth quarter thanks mostly to the clutch shooting of leading scorer Jay Wolfe. The senior scored 11 of his game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter to rally the Panthers.

  • Rams win Dan Hill Invitational

    Matt Malcom, Anthony Sherry and Zach Haggstrom all won their weight classes as Glenwood bested the field for the team title at the Dan Hill Invitational Wrestling Tournament Saturday in Harlan.

    The Rams finished with 204 points to edge second place Gretna by five points. Ashland-Greenwood (Neb.) was third with 183.

    Glenwood coach Brad Asche said the competition at the tournament was top notch with both Gretna and Ashland-Greenwood being top contenders in their classes in Nebraska.

  • Wolverines move to 2-0 with rout...

    Keegan Wederquist and Logan Currin combined for 48 points for the East Mills baskerball team in a 76-45 victory over Heartland Christian Saturday in Council Bluffs.

    The Wolverines (2-0 overall, 2-0 in the Corner Conference) were in control from the start taking an 18-8 lead after a quarter. In the second half, East Mills out-scored the Eagles 43-24.

  • East Mills sweeps Mount Ayr,...

    The East Mills wrestling team opened its season with a road sweep of Clarke and Mount Ayr Thursday.

    The Wolverines took down the host Indians 54-21 and knocked off Mount Ayr 48-21.

    Luke Stortenbecker (145 pounds), Josh Hopkins (152), Clarence Frame (160), Cavin Darnold (195), Ben Christiansen (120), Alec Moorman and Nick Perkins (220) all won both of their matches.
    Stortenbecker and Perkins won both of their matches by fall.
