  • Crash Victim Was Riding Stolen Motorcycle

    A motorcyclist being pursued by the Iowa State Patrol was arrested and transported to an Omaha hospital after crashing the stolen bike in Mills County shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23.

    Chad Larsen, 36, of Council Bluffs crashed in the ditch of the eastbound lane of U.S. Highway 34, approximately one-half mile east of Highway 275 (Tabor turnoff). He attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended and arrested after climbing over a barbed-wire fence and falling down repeatedly while trying to get away through a nearby farm field.

  • Kickin' It With The KISS

    Kenny Spencer admits he never envisioned his career in professional football leading to a prominent role on a reality TV show or personal friendships with rock-and-roll music legends Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS fame.

    Spencer, a 2005 Glenwood Community High School graduate, is the place kicker for the LA KISS, an Arena Football League (AFL) team partially owned by the two band members from KISS and the focus of the 10-week 4th and Loud docu-series that began airing in August on Tuesday nights on AMC (9 p.m. CDT).

        June 17 – A vehicle driven by Andrew Brant of Pacific Junction was eastbound on Coolidge Road when the vehicle left the roadway and went across an empty parking lot, striking a building. No injuries were reported.

        June 18 – Michael Rupe of Glenwood reported a burglary and theft.
        June 26 - Kelly Hall of Omaha  reported a domestic abuse assault.

  • Glenwood middle schooler competing in rodeo nationals

    You might say Houston Stephens was born to be a rodeo star.

    First, there’s the 12-year-old’s name, Houston.

    “I don’t really remember thinking anything that particular on his name, but yeah, it is a cowboy name,” said Brad Stephen’s, Houston’s dad.

    Then there’s 2 – the age this Glenwood Middle School sixth grader first got on a horse – and 5 – the first time he competed in a rodeo.

  • Football playoff qualifiers will shrink to 16 in 2016 season

    Making the state football playoffs just got a little harder.

    Beginning with the 2016 season, each of Iowa’s six football classes will advance 16 teams to the state football playoffs, according to a change announced last week by the Iowa High School Athletic Association Board of Control. The change means a reduction from 32 teams who currently qualify for the postseason in each class.

    The schedules for this fall and the 2015 regular season and playoffs remain unchanged.

  • Fremont-Mills drops two at Griswold tourney

    The Fremont-Mills offense struggled in a pair of losses at the Griswold Softball Tournament on Saturday.

    The Knights (6-8 overall, 3-0 in the Corner Conference) dropped its opener 6-3 to Southwest Valley and then were shutout 10-0 by Exira in the capper.

    In the two games combined, the Knights recorded five hits, just one going for extra bases.

    Joni Laughlin took the loss to Southwest Valley, allowing three hits and no earned runs while striking out four.

  • Rams fall to St. Albert, 14-10

    Council Bluffs St. Albert plated seven runs in the final two innings to erase a three run deficit and escape Glenwood with a 14-10 Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball victory Friday.

    The Rams (8-6 overall, 6-5 in the conference) smacked a season-high 18 hits in the win but just didn’t pitch good enough to win, said Glenwood coach Bret Elam.

  • Rams drop two at Treynor tourney

    Glenwood fielding miscues led to a combined 12 unearned runs as the Rams dropped a pair of games at the Treynor Softball Invitational Saturday.

    The Rams (11-9 overall, 6-6 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference)

    "Unfortunately, we really struggled on defense today," said Glenwood coach Tom Horton.

    Glenwood dropped a decision to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 6-0 and then was bested by the host Cardinals 13-4.

    Jacy Embray was credited with the game one loss after scattering four hits and one earned run in four innings.
