  • Administrative Law Judge Selected For Principal's Hearing

    The administrative law judge who will preside over the hearing that will decide the fate of suspended Glenwood Principal Kerry Newman has been selected.

    Kathy Collins Reilly, an adjunct professor at Drake University Law School and former legal director of the School Administrators of Iowa, has been tabbed to serve as administrative law judge in Newman’s yet-to-be scheduled hearing.

  • City Sets 2013-14 Budget

    A public hearing on the city of Glenwood’s proposed budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year will take place Tuesday, March 12, at 7 p.m. in the Ron Bales City Council Chamber at City Hall.

    Glenwood City Administrator Brian Kissel said the $4.2 million budget will include funding for some major road projects, including repaving and renovation of Vine Street from near the Glenwood Post Office south to the Keg Creek bridge and the paving of Railroad Ave. between the Mills County Engineeer’s building to the southern edge of the city limits.

  • Date, Venue For Principal's Hearing Yet To Be Determined

    Glenwood Community Schools Superintendent Devin Embray expects a hearing concerning Glenwood Community High School principal Kerry Newman’s job status to take place in the coming weeks, but the date and location are yet to be determined.

    In a closed-door meeting on Feb. 12,  the Glenwood School Board voted unanimously to consider terminating Newman’s contract.
     
    Newman had been the subject of an investigation by Embray since being placed on paid administrative leave Jan. 18.

  • Winter Not Going Away

    Winter isn’t going away anytime soon.

    That’s the message Mother Nature has been sending over the past week as a pair of winter storms barreled through the nation’s midsection. The first storm came through Thursday and early Friday morning, dropping 8 inches of snow in the Glenwood area and over 9 inches in other areas of southwest Iowa.

  • Principal Fighting To Keep Her Job

    Glenwood Community High School Principal Kerry Newman said she hand delivered the necessary paperwork to the Glenwood Community School District’s central office Monday to appeal the Glenwood Board of Education’s recommendation to terminate her contract.

    Newman has been the subject of an investigation by school district superintendent  Devin Embray since being placed on paid administrative leave Jan. 18.

  • Arrest Made In Baby's Death

    A 22-year-old Pacific Junction man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 13-month-old baby girl.

    Mills County Attorney Eric Hansen said Colby Ray Puckett, 22, was arrested Friday and charged in the death of 13-month-old Aliyanna L. May, who died at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha on Saturday, Feb. 2.

  • Father Found Guilty Of Murder

    A jury in Pottawattamie County has found Jason Curtis, 36, of Glenwood guilty of first-degree murder in the July 2011 death of his 5-month-old son. The verdict was announced Tuesday in Council Bluffs. Curtis will be sentenced in April.

  • 25-year Sentence For Ex-county Employee

    A former employee of the Mills County Treasurer’s Office has been sentenced to serve 25 years in prison for the theft of funds from the auto licensing department.

    Tammy Jo Gammon, 43, pleaded guilty to the Class B felony in November. She was sentenced Monday in Mills County District Court by Judge Timothy O’Grady.
