  • Fremont-Mill falls 9-4

    Clarinda handed Fremont-Mills a 9-4 loss on Saturday in a non-conference baseball tilt.

    The Knights pounded out 10 hits with Brandon Herrick, Thomas Ware, Dylan Miller and Austin Hansen each getting two hits. Hansen drove in two runs.

    Herrick took the loss on the hill after allowing just one earned run and scattering five hits.

    Austin Hansen pitched a complete-game three hitter and drove in two runs for Fremont-Mills in a 12-2 win over Clarinda Academy on Thursday.

  • Three from Mills County named to pre-season all-state team

    Three Mills County football players have been named to the Iowa Football Coaches Association Pre-season All-State football teams.

    Dylan Blankenship and Colin White of Glenwood were named to the Class 3A team. Blankenship, a senior running back, was fourth in Class 3A last season with 1,538 yards rushing and scored 16 touchdowns. White, a senior offensive and defensive lineman, was first-team all-Hawkeye 10 Conference last year on the offensive line.

  • Three from Mills County named to pre-season all-state team

    Three Mills County football players have been named to the Iowa Football Coaches Association Pre-season All-State football teams.

    Dylan Blankenship and Colin White of Glenwood were named to the Class 3A team. Blankenship, a senior running back, was fourth in Class 3A last season with 1,538 yards rushing and scored 16 touchdowns. White, a senior offensive and defensive lineman, was first-team all-Hawkeye 10 Conference last year on the offensive line.

  • Cyclones get two in ninth to end Glenwood’s season

    For six innings, the Glenwood softball team outplayed, out hustled and out scored Harlan in its Class 3A regional quarterfinal match up on Saturday.

    It was the seventh inning that proved the problem as Harlan used two singles, a sacrifice bunt and Glenwood's only error of the game to score two runs in its final at bat to end the Rams' season with a 2-1 victory.

    Glenwood coach Tim Stanton was emotional after the game.

    “I don't think I can talk right now,” said Stanton, declining interview requests.

    TABOR - Lynde Madison's two-run homer helped lead the Fremont-Mills softball team into the Class 1A regional semifinals with a 6-0 victory over A-H-S-T on Friday at Avoca.

    The Knights (26-10) had seven hits in the win. Mindy Lorimor, Jessica Donahue and Lauren Furnas with two hits each. Madison and Donahue each drove in two runs.

    Lorimor improved to 24-3 in the circle after allowing three hits and striking out seven.

    The Rams (21-8 overall, 12-5 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) have won nine straight since a June 29 7-6 loss to Clarinda.

    Matt Schulz (2-2) came on in relief of Magnussen, who started on the hill, to pitch three innings of scoreless relief and earn the win. Taylor Kaufman came on in the seventh to to earn the save.

    Magnussen drove in two runs. Loeffelbein doubled, walked once and stole two bases.
