  • Glenwood second, third at Atlantic Co-Ed

    The Glenwood boys track team rested some of its top runners and shuffled lineups in some other events while placing second at the Atlantic Co-Ed Track Invitational on Friday.

    The Rams finished with 86 points. Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln and Harlan tied for first at the meet with 108 points.

    “We purposely went into this meet trying to get our athletes a good workout while resting a a few others,” said Glenwood coach Mark Starner. “Our goal wasn't to necessarily win the meet, but to compete and be in the top three at the end of the meet.

  • East Mills sweeps Wolverine Relays

    The East Mills boys and girls track team swept the team titles at their own Wolverine Co-Ed Relay last Tuesday in Malvern.

    The East Mills boys dominated the field with 164.5 points to runner up Nishnabotna's 117 points. The Wolverines won five events and place second in eight more.

    The girls wrapped up five golds of their own and added five more runner-up finishes.

    The East Mills boys got gold medals from Jake Bolton (100-meter dash) and its 4x800, 4x200, 4x400 and distance medley relay teams.

    Jake Doyle was second in the 1,600 and 3,200-meters.

  • Fiesta Bus Fiasco

    They were all dressed up with a place to go. They just didn’t have the transportation to get there.

    Approximately 50 Glenwood Community High School students and their prom dates were forced to spend nearly two hours in the GCHS parking lot Saturday night waiting for an “Omaha Fiesta” bus to take them to Council Bluffs so they could join their classmates at the junior-senior prom.

  • Sweeping to History

    “A phenomenal weekend.”

    That's how Glenwood track coach Mark Starner would describe the performance of long distance runner Johnny Fuller at the 101st Drake Relays in Des Moines last weekend.

    Fuller used a sprinter’s kick in the final 300-meters of both the 3,200 and 1,600-meter runs at the high school portion of the meet to best the state’s top distance runners in all classes for a pair of gold medals.

  • Rams 2-1 at A-D-M touney

    The Glenwood girls soccer team went 2-1 at the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Invitational Tournament on Saturday.

    The Rams opened up the tournament with a 6-2 loss to Class 2A No. 3 ranked Sioux City Heelan before bouncing back to win the final two games over Pella Christian and Bondurant.

    Against Heelan, the score was tied at 2-2 with just over 15 minutes remaining when the Crusaders exploded for four unanswered goals. The offensive onslaught came virtue of several key defensive and goalkeeper breakdowns.

    Michaela Moore had both Glenwood goals against Heelan.

  • Glenwood splits pair at Omaha South tourney

    The Glenwood boys soccer team got a look at some of the top teams in Nebraska’s largest class this weekend at the Dave and Carol Van Metre Soccer Classic at Cornie Collin Field in Omaha.

    Host Omaha South, the No. 3 ranked team in the state of Nebraska, knocked off the Rams 2-0 in the tournament opener. Glenwood bounced back in game two Saturday afternoon to defeat No. 4 ranked Millard West 3-2.

  • Rams fourth at Atlantic

    The Glenwood girls tennis team finished fourth as a team with 19 points at the Atlantic Invitational on Saturday.

    Harlan was the team champion with three teams tied for third with 18 points.

    The Rams' Grace Newman and Rachel Tucker placed second in the doubles tournament. The freshmen defeated a duo from Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 8-4 in the opening round and then knocked off a Harlan tandem to set up a final against Altantic's Morgan Allen and Tierney Kamies in the final.

  • Rams hold on against Harlan

    Ryan Hansen and Bryce Cap pulled out an 8-6 victory in the final match of the day to clinch the Glenwood boys tennis team's 5-4 victory over Harlan last Tuesday.

     

    The Rams jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the singles matches, but Harlan bounced back to win the first two doubles matches and knot the team score at 4-4 before Hansen and Cap's dramatic win.

     

    Grant Nikseresht got off to a slow start but came firing back to win his singles match 10-6 over Nate Patee.

  • Ongoing Investigation In Malvern

    In a press release issued Wednesday afternoon, Mills County Sheriff Eugene Goos acknowledged that his office is continuing an on-going investigation in Malvern that includes the death of Karl Hertz, 62.

    Hertz, the owner and president of Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home, Inc., and former mayor of Malvern, died early Friday morning at his residence as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

  • GRC Superintendent Resigns

    After less than six months on the job, Glenwood Resource Center Superintendent R. Scot Booth abruptly resigned on Thursday.

    Booth was brought in last October to oversee the state-operated residential care and treatment facility for people with mental and developmental disabilities. His resignation was effective the end of the day Thursday.

    A statement released by the Iowa Department of Human Services on Friday did not give a reason for Booth's resignation.

    Assistant superintendent Kelly Brodie has been named interim superintendent.
