  • Mills County District Court 11/27/13

    Judge

        Steven Darrell Howard, Glenwood – first-degree harassment, pleaded guilty, deferred judgment, one year probation, ordered to pay $625 civil penalty, court costs and fees.

        Matthew James Maly, Council Bluffs - driving while license is barred, pleaded guilty, sentenced to 10 days in county jail with credit given for six days served, ordered to pay court costs and fees.

  • P.J. Man Pleads Guilty To Murdering Baby

    A Pacific Junction man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of a 13-month-old baby girl, Aliyanna L. May. The child died Feb. 2. The plea agreement was reached Monday in Mills County District Court.

    Colby Ray Puckett, 23, will be sentenced Jan. 13. Mills County Attorney Eric Hansen said the mandatory sentence in Iowa for second-degree murder is 50 years in prison.  Puckett will be required to serve at least 35 years before being considered for parole, Hansen said.

  • Interpretive Center Site Approved

    The Iowa Preserves Advisory Board has approved the site for the proposed Loess Hills Archaeological Interpretive Center near Glenwood.

    The recommended location is near the intersection of Highway 34 and Levi Road, south of the Glenwood city limits in what’s currently known as Foothills Park. The land is part of a 906-acre state preserve.

  • Mats For The Homeless

    A collaborative effort between Glenwood Community High School students and a crocheting group that meets regularly at Trinity Lutheran Church, will keep nearly 23,000 plastic grocery bags out of the landfill and roadside ditches while providing some winter warmth and comfort to more than a dozen homeless people in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area.

        Jeremy Duane Williams, Glenwood – interference with official acts (bodily injury), pleaded guilty, sentence suspended to seven days in county jail with credit given for time already served, one year probation, driver’s license revoked for one year, ordered to undergo substance abuse evaluation, pay $625 fine, court costs and fees.

    Incidents
        Oct. 30 - Andrew Jeppesen of Glenwood reported a violation of a protection order.
        Nov. 14 - Eagle Eye Property of Glenwood reported a burglary and theft.

    Accidents
        Oct. 29 - A vehicle driven by Gabrielle Poole of Glenwood was backing out of a parking space behind the Grid Iron Restaurant when her vehicle struck a legally parked vehicle. Poole left the scene and was later located by Glenwood Police.

        Nov. 4 – Troy Smith of Emerson reported a burglary and theft.
        Nov. 4 – City Mortgage Inc. of O’Fallon, Mo. reported a theft.

    Accidents
        Nov. 1 – A vehicle driven by Andrew Reeve of Glenwood was westbound on Eastman Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle in a curve causing the vehicle to enter the south ditch. No injuries were reported.

  • Glenwood To Host Air Force Band Holiday Concert

    The Heartland of America Band from Offutt Air Force Base is bringing some special holiday music to Glenwood next month.

        Through the joint sponsorship of The Opinion-Tribune newspaper and the Glenwood Community School District, the Air Force band will present its “New Traditions” holiday concert at the Glenwood Community High School Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m.
