  • Darnold runs wild in 68-9 East Mills home victory

    The East Mills football team racked up 540 total yards, including a career-high 223 yards rushing and four touchdowns from Cavin Darnold in a dominating 68-9 victory over West Harrison Friday in Malvern.

    “West Harrison had some good players and good skill but I think we got the better of them. I think we were the more prepared team,” said East Mills coach Andy Irwin.”

    The Rams’ 540 total yards are a three-year high and their 418 rushing yards is among the top five rushing performances ever by the school in eight-man football.

  • Glenwood girls sixth, boys fourth at A.L. Invite

    The Glenwood girls placed sixth and the boys fourth at the Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln Cross Country Invitational on the campus of Iowa Western Community College on Saturday.

    In damp, cool conditions, the Sioux City East girls ran away with the team crown with four runners among the top 13 finishers. Harlan took home the title on the boys side with 51 team points.
    Missouri Valley’s Alexis Cook won the girls individual title with a time of 15:42 while Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson’s Eldon Warner was the boys champion in 16:49.

  • Charges Filed Against Former Librarian

    The former director of the Malvern Public Library has been arrested and charged with ongoing criminal conduct and first-degree theft.

    Stacey Buick, 41, is accused of misappropriating more than $20,000 from the library from July 2006 – October 2013.

    Charges were filed in Mills County after an investigation by the Iowa State Auditor’s Office identified improper expenditures and unsupported documents during Buick’s tenure as library director.

  • Knights tame Eagles early in 50-20 win

    WOODBINE - A lot of good, a little bit of bad.

    That’s how Fremont-Mills coach Jeremy Christiansen would describe his team’s 50-20 season-opening victory over Woodbine Friday in Eight-Man football.

    Christiansen saw “lots of good” from his starters, who played just a quarter and a half as the Knights mounted a 43-0 lead, before giving way to the reserves.

  • Off and Running

    The Glenwood girls placed third and the boys fifth at the 40th annual Ram Invitational Cross Country Meet in Glenwood Lake Park Saturday.

    The Ram girls got a trio of top 10 finishes from Hayley Matthews (fifth), Natalie Shearer (seventh) and Jillian Finnegan (ninth) to rack up 74 team points.

    Harlan swept the boys and girls team titles. The Cyclone girls had five place winners among the top 12 runners while the boys placed three runners in the top four.

  • Rams win 41-24 in ‘home’ opener

    PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. – Highway 34 bragging rights for southwest Iowa were settled Friday night in Nebraska.

    Yes, Nebraska.

    Forced to move its season-opener to Plattsmouth High School’s artificial turf because of a soggy surface at Ram Memorial Field, Glenwood held off pesky Red Oak, 41-24, in a non-district contest.

    The Rams raced to a 28-0 halftime lead and survived a valiant second-half comeback effort by a determined Tiger squad to secure the win.

  • Glenwood Police Reports 9/3/14

        Aug. 26 – A vehicle driven by Janice Engle was northbound on Locust Street attempting to make a left turn and did not see a motorcycle driven by Christopher Gorham of Bellevue approaching southbound on Locust. Gorham did not have enough time to stop and collided with Engle’s vehicle. No injuries were reported.
