    On the night it unveiled its new gym in front of a near packed crowd, the Glenwood volleyball team rode that wave of excitement to a game one win but couldn't sustain the momentum in a marathon 25-19, 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 6-15 loss to Harlan last Tuesday night.

  • Rams win in homecoming shutout

    “Was this a shutout?”

    That's how Glenwood football coach Brian Albert responded when asked when his team last posted a shutout.

    It's hard to blame Albert for being a little distracted. He’s got a little more on his mind after his team improved to 3-1 on the season and a 2-0 start in Class 3, District 8 with a 17-0 victory over Clarke-Osceola on Homecoming Night in Glenwood.

    Albert couldn't recall the last time Glenwood shut out an opponent or when his team last started a football season 3-1 but agrees the Rams' 2-0 start in the district is big.

  • Bolton’s five TD tosses lead Wolverines to 60-0 victory

    Jake Bolton threw five touchdown passes and the East Mills defense posted its first ever shutout in a 60-0 eight man, District 8 football victory over South Page on Friday.

    East Mills coach Andy Irwin entered the game hoping his team could fine tune its pass protection against the 1-3 Rebels. And boy did they ever.

    “We had some trouble last week defending the blitzing linebacker against our spread and we wanted to sharpen that up,” he said. “I really thought we took care of some things in this game.”

  • Glenwood cross country sixth at Red Oak meet

    The Glenwood girls cross country team placed sixth at the Red Oak Cross Country Meet last Thursday.

    Harlan was the meet champion followed by Griswold and Atlantic.

    The Rams were paced by the 22nd-place showing of Kayla Anderson with a time of 18:59. Ashly Nolan was 31st in 19:31 and Laura Chekal was 39th.

    Glenwood was without No. 2 runner Brooke Peckham who sat out the meet with an undisclosed illness.

    Katie Sladovnik paced the Ram junior varsity with a 13th place showing.

  • A Reason To Celebrate

    OK, I know it wasn’t supposed to open this way.

        I know it’s a year behind schedule and I know it’s not going to be totally finished until the auditorium gets put together later this year.

        One school board candidate told me last week that the high school construction project has become “a joke.” I don’t dispute his assertion. I’ve been a part of the coffee shop chatter and have thrown out a sarcastic one-liner or two myself.

  • Rams run over, around Cardinals

    Behind 289 rushing yards and a dominating defensive effort the Glenwood football team put last week's season opening loss behind them with 35-12 victory over Clarinda at Ram Memorial Field Friday.

    Ram running back Dylan Blankenship set the tone early for Glenwood after hold the Cardinals (0-2) to a three-and-out on their first possession. The 6 foot, 220 running back carried the ball twice on the ensuing drive, capped by his 14-yard touchdown scamper with 6:47 remaining in the first quarter.

  • East Mills falls in overtime thriller

    HASTINGS – Friday night’s eight-man football showdown between top-ranked Cumberland-Anita-Massena (CAM) and East Mills had the feel of a heavyweight prizefight.

    The Cougars and Wolverines traded punches for four full quarters of football and even needed a session of overtime before CAM could finally come away with a 44-42 decision. On the last play of the game, East Mills running back Nathan Day was stopped inches from the goal line to deny the Wolverines a two-point conversion attempt that would have sent the game into a second overtime period.

  • Glenwood boys sweep titles at 35th Annual Ram Invite

    Johnny Fuller and the Glenwood boys cross country team took advantage of its home course last Tuesday for a first-place finish at the 35th Co-Ed Ram Cross Country Meet at Glenwood Lake Park.

    Fuller led Glenwood with a course and school-record time of 15:32 and four other Ram runners in the top 10 to sweep the individual and team titles. Glenwood's 29 points were 83 better than distant runner-up Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln.

    Fuller's time is also currently top in the state in any class this season, said Glenwood boys coach Todd Peverill.

  • Rams split season-opener

    OMAHA - The Glenwood volleyball team split a triangular on Thursday at Omaha Roncalli.

    The Rams lost a 25-22, 17-25, 16-26 decision to Omaha South in the opener before bouncing back to knock off the host Crimson Pride 25-23, 25-23 in the capper.

    “I thought we played really well,” said Glenwood coach Kara Huisman. “Even with the loss I didn't think we played real bad. I really feel we played good the first one and the only reason we lost the next games was our serving.”
