  • Wolverines pull away from Trojans

    East Mills used a 16-2 fourth quarter run to pull away from Essex for a 46-26 Corner Conference victory Friday.

    The Wolverines (11-2 overall, 10-0 in the conference) led 30-24 at the end of the three quarters before exploding in the fourth quarter.

    Kolten Wederquist led the Wolverines with 12 points, seven rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots. Jacob Schafer and Logan Currin each added 10 points.

  • Top ranked Harlan runs away from Rams

    Harlan used a 10-0 run to close out the third quarter to pull away from Glenwood for a 71-40 Hawkeye 10 Conference girls basketball victory Friday.

    The Class 3A, No. 1 ranked Cyclones opened the game with hot shooting rolling up a 9-0 lead and a 15-3 spread after a quarter.  Glenwood cut the lead to 20-12 midway through the second quarter but Harlan stretched its out to 30-17 at the half.  

  • Glenwood drops second straight

    Harlan opened the game on an 18-2 run and ran away with a 61-39 victory over Glenwood Saturday night in Harlan.

    Gage Shatava led Glenwood (8-5 overall, 4-3 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) with 17 points. Cole Kennedy and Drew Konfrst each added six.

    Trey Lansman scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Harlan (11-1 overall, 7-1 in the conference).

  • Fremont-Mills’ Williams enters 1,000 point club

    Macy Williams has always looked up to her big sister Chelsey on the basketball court.

    Chelsey, now Zimmerman, was a 5-foot-10 do-it-all scorer and a three-year starter for the Knights in the mid-2000s. She could and did play all five positions on the basketball court, finishing as the school’s all-time leading scorer in 2005.

    On Friday, little sister joined elite company.

  • Knights’ pressure too much for Devils

    Tabor - In a 4-1 record since the holiday break, the Fremont-Mills girls have turned up the pressure to the tune of more than 12 steals per game.

    Friday night was no different.

    The Knights grabbed nine steals and forced 11 turnovers in the first quarter alone as they sprinted out to a 25-7 lead en route to a 61-24 victory over Nishnabotna Friday in Corner Conference action in Tabor.

  • WEDDING - Ashley Fultz/Dylan Griffin

    Ashley Loren Fultz and Dylan Thomas Griffin of Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., were united in marriage at the Omaha Hilton Hotel on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. Carol Lynne officiated the ceremony. A reception followed at the hotel.

    The bride is the daughter of Danny and Janice Fultz of Glenwood. She’s on active duty in the U.S. Air Force and has studied dental assisting at Iowa Western Community College and esthetics at LaJames International.

  • Fire Investigation Includes Search For Human Remains

    Mills County Sheriff Eugene Goos confirmed Monday that an investigation into a New Year’s Eve fire that destroyed a home at 16683 Alcorn Ave., near the Bellevue Toll Bridge, has included a search for human remains.
