  • Tigers sweep East Mills in district opener

        Griswold ended the East Mills volleyball team’s season last Tuesday with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-21 sweep of the Wolverines in the Class 2A, Region 3 opening round.
        The Wolverines (9-15) finished with 29 kills but struggled with their consistency, hitting at .099.  Amanda Bazer led the way with 13 kills. Kendra Croghan added six and Jessie Doyle four. Doyle added nine digs.
        Stephanie Frink had 14 set assists.
     

  • Stanton gets fourth straight win over Knights

        The fourth time wasn’t the charm for Fremont-Mills volleyball team.
        Stanton got 14 kills from Carmen Subbert and hit .441 as a team in a fourth straight victory over the Knights this season in Tuesday’s 25-14, 25-11, 25-13 win in the Class 1A, Region 2 quarterfinals.
        The Knights (18-10) hit just .159 in the loss, finishing with 18 kills. Taryn Williams led the way with 10 kills and Macy Williams added three. Macy Williams also pitched in three aces.

  • Glenwood girls eighth at regionals

        The Glenwood girls cross country team missed qualifying for the state meet with an eighth place finish at the Class 3A Regionals in Atantic on Oct. 22.
        The Rams finished with 216 points.
        Dallas Center-Grimes was the regional champion with 52 points. Harlan was the meet runner-up with a team score of 74.
        Natalie Shearer led the Rams with a 28th place finish. Lizzy Young was 30th.

  • Reeve runs at state cross country

        Glenwood’s Jeff Reeve placed 97th at the Iowa State Cross Country meet on Saturday at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
        Reeve ran a 17:58.13. The senior placed 32nd last year.
        Boone’s Chandler Austin was the individual champion with a time of 15:24.26. Teammate Albert Meier was second in 15:35.20.
        Decorah placed four runners in the top 12 to take home the team title with a score of 62.

  • Lewis Central ends Rams’ season in regionals

        For the second time in 10 days, the Council Bluffs Lewis Central volleyball team delivered a three game sweep of Glenwood.
        Thursday’s 25-19, 25-18, 27-25 loss at the hand of the Titans ended Glenwood’s season in the Class 4A, Region 1 semifinals.

  • Knights ousted in first round

        Coon Rapids-Bayard quarterback Keaton Schlatter threw 53 passes in last Wednesday’s Eight-Man state playoff game against Fremont-Mills.
        None was bigger than the senior’s 26-yard dart to Caylor Deeth with 9:21 to go in the game. The touchdown toss proved to be the game-winner for the No. 3 seed Crusaders in a 45-34 upset of the defending state champion Knights in front of a reporter-estimated 400 fans on a frigid night in Tabor.

  • Wolverines win in rout, 51-6

        The East Mills football team snapped a four-game losing skid with a 51-6 victory over West Monona on Friday in Sloan.
        The Wolverines (4-5 overall, 3-4 in District 8) forced four turnovers and limited West Monona to 210 total yards in the dominating win.
        East Mills finished with 248 yards rushing to the Spartans’ 106. Colby Jennings ran for a game-high 122 yards and a touchdown. Caleb Barney added 79 yards on the ground and a 52 yard touchdown pass from Logan Currin.

  • Knights knock off Lenox, will open playoffs against CR-Bayard

        Fremont-Mills overcame five turnovers to down Lenox 42-18 in the Eight-Man, District 1 regular season final for both teams.
        The Knights (8-1 overall, 6-1 in the district) got 191 yards rushing and three touchdowns from Clayton Wilson. Wilson also completed two passes for 70 yards and a touchdown.
        Austin Switzer was 2-of-6 passing for 61 yards and a touchdown toss.

        But it’s his first he remembers the most.

        The Glenwood football team wrapped up its season with a 28-21 upset victory over Atlantic on Friday.
