  • More Evacuations In Mills County

    EDITOR'S NOTE - Mills County released the following announcement Wednesday: A Mandatory Evacuation Order was issued Wednesday by the Mills County Board of Supervisors and Mills County Emergency Management, affecting four  residences in northwest Mills County.
     

  • Levee Watch

    Their mission is to identify potential problems and trouble spots that could compromise the structural integrity of the Missouri River levee system in western Mills County.

        Working in teams of two, soldiers from the Iowa Army National Guard have been patrolling Mills County’s 26 miles of levee since mid-June. Most of the soldiers assigned to Mills County are members of the 1168th Transportation Co., based out of Audubon, Perry and Marshalltown.

  • Blue Devils edge Wolverines, 3-1

        The Nishnabotna baseball team knocked off East Mills 3-1 in the regular-season final for both teams last Wednesday.
        The Wolverines (6-9) struggled against Blue Devil starter Kaleb Kahue. The senior right-hander allowed one hit and no earned runs while striking out 14.
        Luke Schafer had the lone hit for East Mills.
        Charlie Ruff recorded the loss but did not allow an earned run.
        Andrew Thompson had two hits and drove in a run for Nishnabotna.

  • Glenwood baseball gets past Wahoo, 12-3

        Josh Keim and Taylor Kaufman both homered for the Glenwood baseball team in a 12-3, five inning victory over Wahoo, Neb. at the Omaha South Tournament on Sunday.
        Keim finished with two hits and two RBIs.
        Tyler Jensen added two hits and an RBI.
        Grant Stivers earned the win pitching a complete-game and allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out five.

  • F-M swats Blue Devils, Eagles to advance to regional semis

        TABOR - The Fremont-Mills softball team advanced to the Class 1A Region 8 semifinals with a 2-1 victory over Underwood on Friday.

  • Rams advance to district semis

        Molly Bryan allowed one hit through six innings and smacked a two-run homer to help Glenwood to a 6-1 Class 3A, Region 8 quarterfinal win over Atlantic on Saturday.

  • Mills County Flooding Update

    On Friday, Mills County Emergency Management Director Larry Hurst provided an update to The Opinion-Tribune on the latest flood situation during a five-hour tour and assessment of the Missouri River levee systems and lowland flooding in western Mills County. Hurst said roads and agricultural fields are being lost daily as surface waters rise.

     

  • Governor Gets 'First-hand Look' At Flood-fighting Efforts

    PACIFIC JUNCTION – Gov. Terry Branstad visited Mills County Wednesday afternoon to assess Missouri River flood damage and get a personal look at the flood prevention efforts being carried out by local governmental agencies, homeowners and private businesses.

    The future of the Loess Hills Humane Society’s animal shelter  in Mills County (21600 221st St.) is in question following a formal announcement last week that the facility has been closed indefinitely, and LHHS has not renewed its animal control contracts with Mills County or the cities of Glenwood and Pacific Junction.
