  • Glenwood into regional semifinals with 10-0 win

    Jordyn Hanshaw scored four goals as Glenwood routed Denison 10-0 in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal Friday.

    Hanshaw opened the Rams scoring onslaught just 3:22 into the game with her first of four goals on the night. Just 38 seconds after that first score, Alicia Leu added a second Ram goal.
    The Rams led 6-0 at halftime.

    “The girls played really well tonight and we are looking forward to Tuesday’s regional game,” said Glenwood coach Amy Benson.

  • Peckham, Chavez drop two at state tennis tourney

    Glenwood seniors Cole Peckham and Max Chavez took their 9-4 doubles record into the Class 1A State Tennis Doubles Tournament Friday in Waterloo as the No. 6 seed.

    Peckham and Chavez lost their first match of the tournament to the LeMars tandem of Matt Ellefson and Josh Sluiter 7-6 (10-8), 6-3.

        Nile Johnathan Packett, Glenwood – disorderly conduct - fighting or violent behavior, pleaded guilty, ordered to pay $65 fine, court costs and fees.
        Timothy John Digiacomo, Malvern - disorderly conduct - fighting or violent behavior, pleaded guilty, ordered to pay $65 fine, court costs and fees.

  • Rams Punch Ticket To State

     

    Set pieces don’t get executed more perfectly.

    Scout Crow’s assist on a pitch perfect corner kick connected perfectly to Andy Staiert who headed in a goal to break a deadlocked 1-1 tie and give Glenwood the lead for good in a 3-1 Class 2A Substate championship victory over Harlan Saturday.

    For Staiert, the Rams’ top defensive sweeper, his second goal of the season couldn’t have come at a bigger moment.

  • Former GCHS Teacher Arrested

    Criminal charges have been filed against a former Glenwood Community High School social studies teacher.

    Russell Crouch, 38, is facing charges of sexual exploitation by a school employee, an aggravated misdemeanor, and supplying alcohol to a minor, a serious misdemeanor. He was arrested Friday afternoon after turning himself in to authorities. If convicted of the charges, Crouch could face up to three years in prison and possible fines up to $6,250. He would also have to register as a sex offender.

  • Glenwood teacher resigns after being placed on administrative leave

    A popular teacher and speech coach at Glenwood Community High School has resigned after being place on administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation.

    Russell Crouch, who has taught history at the high school since 2006, tendered his resignation two days after being placed on paid administrative leave. The Glenwood School Board accepted Crouch’s resignation at a May 22 special board meeting. Crouch was not present at the meeting.

        May 17 – A vehicle driven by Shannon Vanatta of Tabor was traveling westbound through the Shopko parking lot when a second vehicle, driven by Billy Dixon of Malvern, backed out of a parking spot and collided with Vanatta’s vehicle. No injuries were reported.
