  • Fremont-Mills splits pair at Treynor Classic

    Clarinda knocked off the Fremont-Mills softball team 10-3 in game one before the Knights bounced back in game two with an 8-3 win over Villisca at the Treynor Softball Classic on Saturday.

    In game one, the Knights (11-7 overall, 5-0 in the conference), struggled with their hitting, getting three singles from Chelsea Younts, Hannah Fichter and Morgan Esary in the 10-3 loss. Kendall Fichter, an eighth grader, took the loss in the circle after allowing three earned runs and five hits in the six inning game.

  • Errors doom E-Mills in loss

    East Mills committed six errors leading to four runs as Sidney pulled away for a 13-10 Corner Conference baseball victory on Thursday.

    Jake Doyle had two hits and Dylan Larsen three for the Wolverines. Doyle also drove in three runs.

    Matt Miller took the loss on the hill after allowing five earned runs and three hits in three innings of work.

    Freshman pitcher Charlie Ruff struck out nine for East Mills in a 5-4 complete-game victory over Farragut last Tuesday.

  • Alcohol possibly a factor in Thurman death

    THURMAN - Medical and law enforcement authorities in Fremont County believe alcohol may have contributed to the death of a 32-year-old man found dead Sunday morning inside a camper trailer.

    Thurman Rescue and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10 a.m. to a report of an unresponsive male at 702 Filmore St. Rescue personnel discovered Thomas Jazon Smith dead inside a camper parked on the property.

They are all at different stages of overcoming a disease that claims over 500,000 lives every year. Latest statistics show that one out of every four Americans will be diagnosed with cancer sometime during their lifetime.

    “When you see the survivors at the Relay For Life, it reminds you of how many people have been affected,” Bird said.

  • Melody Wranglers returning to amphitheater

    The Melody Wranglers kick it up with old style country, western swing and honky-tonk music. They tip their hats to such country music greats as Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Bob Wills, Buck Owens, Dolly Parton and Merle Haggard. Each of the Wranglers has over 30 years of professional music experience and all are former members of the legendary Nebraska country-swing band, Sour Mash. Wrangler members have recorded on numerous albums and CDs, performed on radio and TV and have won awards at music festivals across the country.
