  • Ram Softball Wins 3-of-4 To Open Season

    Glenwood opened its 2013 softball season by winning three of its first four games. Pitcher Lisa Nebel tossed shutouts in all three wins.

    Nebel pitched a one-hitter in the Rams’ 10-0 victory over AHST. She recorded nine strikeouts and gave up just one base on balls. Cassie Kruse homered in the victory and drove in three runs. Jaelin Stanton scored a pair of runs for the Rams.

  • Glenwood Girls Advance With OT Win

    It took the second half of extra time, but the Glenwood Rams girls soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the Class 2A Region 3 tournament after defeating Winterset 4-3, Thursday evening.

    Jordyn Hanshaw scored the game-winning goal for Glenwood thanks to an assist by Sydney Gutschenritter at the third minute mark of the second half of extra time.

  • Substate Loss Ends Rams' Season

    As cliche as it sounds, Glenwood’s substate soccer loss to Adel DeSoto Minburn (ADM) Saturday afternoon really was much closer than the final score would indicate.

    The Rams took 15 more shots than ADM, but it was the Tigers who would tally three goals in the final 15 minutes of the game to punch their ticket to the state tournament with a 3-0 win before more than 200 spectators at the GCHS soccer field.

  • Artist In Residence

    MALVERN - Artist Zack Jones has worked in various mediums.

    Digital animation, watercolor, film, pen and ink, oil on canvas.

    Nowhere on that list does “139-year-old former Presbyterian church” appear.

    But that is exactly the “medium” Jones is working in with his Art Church Project.
     
    Jones bought the former Presbyterian church just off Main Street in Malvern on the brick-lined street corner of Prospect and East Fourth Streets from the Malvern Historical Society last May.

  • Courthouse Completion In August

    The renovation and construction work taking place at the Mills County Courthouse is on schedule to be completed this summer.

    Mills County Supervisor Richard Crouch and Mills County Auditor Carol Robertson said the addition to the east side of the building and renovation work taking place within the existing structure is expected to be completed in August.

  • Relay For Life Ambassadors

    Exercise has long been known to reduce a person’s risk for getting cancer, and walking is often one of the easiest ways to exercise.

    Hundreds, potentially more than a thousand, people will walk during the 2013 Mills County Relay for Life. The event runs from 4 p.m. June 1 to 8 a.m. June 2 at Ram Memorial Field in Glenwood. Leading the event will be four Relay for Life ambassadors - Bob Blasi of Glenwood, Mary May of rural Silver City, Mary Renze of Glenwood and Roger Wyant of Malvern.

        Tammy Raye Thallus, Omaha – possession of a controlled substance, pleaded guilty, sentence suspended to two days in county jail, one year probation, driver’s license suspended for 180 days, ordered to pay court costs and fees.

  • WEDDING - Matthew Aporta/Mary Beth LaRue

    Mary Beth LaRue and Matthew Aporta were united in marriage April 6, 2013, at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch in Santa Margarita, Calif. The ceremony was officiated by David Lynch.

        The bride is the daughter of Dick and Linda LaRue of Glenwood. The groom is the son of John Aporta and Micael Tsavaris of New York, N.Y.
        John LaRue, brother of the bride, served as the man of honor. Two of the bridesmaids were Blaire Winum Schnebel and Ashley Turner of Glenwood.
