  • Jennie Ed Provides GCHS With Athletic Trainer

Glenwood Community High School has contracted with Jennie Edmundson Physical Therapy to provide a full-time athletic trainer for all sports at the high school.

Jennie Edmundson, a division of Methodist Health System, has been providing full-time athletic trainers to Council Bluffs’ four high schools for nearly 20 years. But this is the first time the program has extended outside Council Bluffs. Glenwood is the first non-Council Bluffs high school to be offered the full-time service.

  • Kickin' It With The KISS

Kenny Spencer admits he never envisioned his career in professional football leading to a prominent role on a reality TV show or personal friendships with rock-and-roll music legends Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS fame.

Spencer, a 2005 Glenwood Community High School graduate, is the place kicker for the LA KISS, an Arena Football League (AFL) team partially owned by the two band members from KISS and the focus of the 10-week 4th and Loud docu-series that began airing in August on Tuesday nights on AMC (9 p.m. CDT).

  • Knight comeback comes up short at state

DES MOINES - A first half of 29 percent shooting and a near eight minute scoring drought while getting down 33-22 would be enough to dampen almost any coach’s mood.

    Not Fremont-Mills Coach Rod Williams.

“There’s no quit in these kids. I knew, at halftime, I had no doubt, this game would be decided in the last possession,” Williams said after the game.

    Williams was right.

  • Rams headed to state

ATLANTIC - It has been 63 years since Glenwood last played in the Iowa State Basketball Tournament.

    Make that, had been.

The Rams battled back from an 11-2 deficit to open the game and avenged two regular season losses to Denison with a 54-49 victory in the Class 3A, substate finals in Atlantic Monday to earn a bid to the state tournament for the first time since 1952.

  • Rams down Atlantic in district opener

ATLANTIC - The Glenwood boys basketball team avenged two regular-season losses to Atlantic with a 70-69 victory in the Class 3A, District 16 opener Monday in Atlantic.

With the win, the Rams (10-12) will play Harlan (15-6) Thursday in the district finals at Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

“This was a great win tonight,” said Glenwood coach Curt Schulte after the victory over Atlantic. “It was a great district atmosphere and we came up big.”

  • Knights headed to state tournament

RED OAK – As Adair-Casey clawed back in the fourth quarter of the Class 1A, Region 8 final Monday night, Fremont-Mills guard Macy Williams knew her team needed to do something to keep their state tournament dreams alive.

“They were taking away our ball movement outside the three-point line, so I saw the lane open and tried to attack as much as possible and get them in foul trouble,” Macy Williams said.
Williams did plenty of attacking in the fourth quarter.

  • Rams’ Malcom, Sherry earn state medals

DES MOINES - Glenwood’s Matt Malcom and Anthony Sherry placed fifth and fourth respectively at the Iowa State Wrestling Meet this weekend at Wells Fargo Arena.

Both Malcom (152) and Sherry (160) made it all the way to Friday afternoon’s semifinal round before losing there. Both went 1-1 in Saturday’s consolation matches to become the Rams’ first medal winners at state in four years.

Glenwood coach Brad Asche said the mood of his team was disappointed but not discouraged after their performance at state.
