    Judge
    Charles Smith III
        Jeffrey Lynn Vosler, Council Bluffs - eluding law enforcement officers, pleaded guilty, sentenced to 120 days in county jail, ordered to pay $625 fine, court costs and fees.
        Charles Kephart, Glenwood - O.W.I. (2nd offense), pleaded guilty, sentence suspended to seven days in county jail, one year probation, work release granted, ordered to undergo substance abuse evaluation, pay $1,875 fine, court costs and fees.

  • 4-Hers attend Youth Horse Jamboree

        The 4-H Youth Horse Jamboree was held March 24-25, in  Ames.  The event was an opportunity for youth to participate in a host of activities from hippology to quiz bowl, public speaking and horseless horse projects including photography, visual arts, woodworking, creative writing, and others.

    The National Weather Service says a significant severe thunderstorm outbreak is expected Saturday afternoon and evening across much of the central plains, including western Iowa and eastern Nebraska.

        A 32-year-old Arkansas man died Monday evening  from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle rollover accident south of Malvern on 310 St., approximately one-half mile north of Noyes Ave.

  • Looking Like A No-win Situation For East Mills

    In 2007, I thought the consolidation of the Malvern and Nishna Valley school districts into one East Mills Community School District was a good idea.

    I don’t feel that way anymore.

    As an outsider looking in, the Nishna Valley-Malvern marriage appears to be on shaky ground.

  • ENGAGEMENT - Katie Evans - Eric Hakos

    Katie Evans and Eric Hakos, both of Omaha, exchanged vows Feb. 17, 2012, during their destination wedding in Keystone, Colo.

        The bride is the daughter of Jeff and Michelle Evans of Glenwood. The groom is the son of Dorothy and Tom Hakos of Maryland.
        Abbey and Rachael Evans, sisters of the bride, served as bridesmaids. The best man was Chris Hakos, brother of the groom.

  • Primary Election Field Set

          It’s safe to say the outcome of the June 5 Republican Party primary election in Mills County will go a long way in determining who gets elected to the positions of county auditor, county sheriff and a pair of seats on the board of supervisors in the November general election. That’s because the Democratic Party will have no candidates for these offices on its primary election ballot.

  • National Honor Society

    The 24 new members of the Glenwood Honor Keys chapter of the National Honor Society were inducted at a ceremony in the Glenwood Community High School auditorium last Monday, April 2.

        The formal induction took place following an address from GCHS principal Kerry Newman and a ceremonial candle-lighting ceremony involving current members of the Glenwood Honor Keys chapter.
