  • Henze’s 3-run blast lifts Rams into regional finals

        McKenna Henze did something on Saturday she hadn't done in more than 300 previous varsity at bats.
        She hit a home run.
        Henze couldn’t have picked a better moment to smack her first round tripper.
        Henze’s three-run shot in the top of the 11th inning gave Glenwood a 4-1 lead and lifted the Rams to a 4-2 victory over Harlan in the Class 4A, Region 8 semifinals on Saturday.

  • Fallen Soldier Remembered Fondly

    During the spring of 2005, Nishna Valley principal Deb Taylor returned to work after battling breast cancer. While it was a difficult time, she now cherishes a moment shared with then senior James Skalberg.

    “I remember when I came back, he put his arm around me and said, ‘It’s so good to have you back,’” Taylor told the Des Moines Register last week. “He was very caring.”

  • Opportunistic upset

        TABOR - The East Mills softball team knew if they were to have a chance to defeat five-time defending Corner Conference champion Fremont-Mills, the Wolverines would need a couple breaks.
        They got five in the first inning and 12 for the game.
    The Wolverines (2-21) rode five Fremont-Mills’ errors to five first inning runs and took advantage of seven more Knights miscues in a stunning 12-2, five inning upset in the Class 1A Region 7 opening round on Monday.

  • Wolverines rout F-M on senior night

        The East Mills baseball team “ten run ruled” Fremont Mills 12-2 on Friday in Malvern.  
        The Wolverines (8-9 overall, 8-5 in the Corner Conference) slapped seven hits and got strong innings of pitching from Charlie Ruff in the five inning win.

  • Stanton happy with Rams’ post-season draw

        The Glenwood softball team will have a first round draw and open post-season play at home when the Class 4A softball regionals begin next week.
        The Rams (24-8 overall, 12-4 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) will host the winner of Council Bluffs Lewis Central  (22-13 overall, 8-9 in the conference) and Harlan (29-9 overall, 13-4 in the conference) on Saturday. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m. Lewis Central and Harlan open post-season play on Thursday at Harlan.

  • Rams blank Lewis Central

        Molly Bryan was masterful on the mound and the Glenwood defense was just as good.
        The Glenwood softball team completed the season-sweep of Council Bluffs Lewis Central with a dominant 4-0 shutout win on Friday.

  • Glenwood takes two from Denison on road

        The Glenwood baseball team improved to 9-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference with a pair of come-from-behind wins over Denison on Thursday.
        The Rams (18-10 overall) won game one 8-5 and then scored four runs in the top of the seventh to edge the Monarchs (13-15 overall, 8-9 in the conference) 9-6 in the nightcap.

        The Summer Food Service Program is sponsored by the Glenwood Community School District and is free to all children ages 18 and under.
        Glenwood Middle School, is located at 400 Sivers Road. Breakfast is served 8 - 9 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

        Kid’s Place Daycare is located at 103 Central, at the Glenwood Resource Center campus.
