  • East Mills advances to Corner Conference quarterfinals with win

         The East Mills girls overcame a slow start to out-score Clarinda Academy 35-4 in the second half of a 67-30 victory in the opening round of the Corner Conference Girls Basketball Tournament.
        “We started out a little sluggish, but were able to open things up in the second half,” said East Mills coach Jeff Laughlin. “I thought that we played excellent defense all night. We limited them to four second half points.” 

  • Rams win OT thriller

        Momentum is fickle.
        Just ask Denison.
        One minute the Monarchs are up five points and in control of their Hawkeye 10 Conference basketball game at Glenwood last Tuesday.
        Less than 20 seconds and a Grant May 19-footer later, the game is tied and headed into overtime where Glenwood scores the first eight points of the extra frame to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat in a 66-59 win before a reporter-estimated crowd of 400.

    Incidents
        Jan. 6 – Donna Gaylord of Glenwood reported a burglary and theft.
    Accidents
        Jan. 4 – A vehicle driven by Christopher Howell of Glenwood was proceeding through the intersection of Elm and Sharp Streets when a second vehicle driven by Donald Renshaw of Glenwood struck Howell’s vehicle in the intersection.

  • Mills County District Court 1/16/13

    Judge

        Amanda Scott, Malvern - O.W.I., pleaded guilty, deferred judgment, six months probation, ordered to udergo substance abuse evaluation, pay $1,250 civil penalty ($625 waived with proof of driver’s license), court costs and fees.

  • MEMPHIS, The Musical

    OMAHA - Memphis, the musical the 2010 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, will play at Omaha’s Orpheum Theater Tuesday, Jan. 15 through Sunday, Jan.  20, as part of the Omaha Performing Arts Broadway series.

  • New Police Station

    The Glenwood Police Department made its move official last Thursday – cutting the ribbon on its new home in the lower level of City Hall at 3 N. Vine St. The two-story building previously housed the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints and was purchased by the city of Glenwood last year for the relocation of City Hall, the police department and Glenwood Municipal Utilities offices.

  • 'Active Shooter' Preparedness

    No students, staff or faculty members were present and there really wasn’t a gunman, but that didn’t prevent officers from the Glenwood Police Department from taking their “active shooter” exercise seriously last Thursday at Northeast Elementary School.


    The exercise was an opportunity for the officers to prepare for a situation involving an active shooter in a school or another public setting.
