  • Former Officer, Mayoral Candidate Injured In Accidental Shooting At West Elementary Playground Friday

    Former Glenwood police officer and 2013 Glenwood mayoral candidate Douglas Trent Good has been identified as the man who sustained an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg while waiting in a vehicle for a child in the lower playground parking lot of West Elementary School Friday afternoon. Good was transported from the scene to a metro area hospital by Glenwood Rescue. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Good is a certified firearms instructor, providing gun handling instruction to individuals seeking a permit to carry.

  • Bones Found At Fire Scene

    The Council Bluffs Police Department confirmed Wednesday bones were found at the scene of a New Year's Eve fire in Mills County and investigators are trying to detemine if the bones belong to a missing Council Bluffs man, 26-year-old Travis Bach.

  • Puckett Gets 50-Year Sentence

    Colby Puckett was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Monday by Mills County District Court Judge Greg W. Steensland for the murder of 13-month-old Aliyanna L. May last February.

  • Randolph Water Woes

    If the frigid temperatures aren’t bad enough, Randolph residents learned Monday they’d be without water service for at least a day or two.

    An initial report Monday morning indicated a stuck valve had drained the Randolph water tower. Later in the day, however, repair crews determined the town’s main water line had a rupture.

    Equipment and crews were being rounded up to dig around the line and repair the break.

  • Murder Charges Filed In Glenwood Woman's Death

    A 24-year-old Council Bluffs man has been charged with murder in the death of a Glenwood woman, according to the Iowa Department of Public Safety. Chad Fortner was charged Tuesday with 2nd-degree murder in the death of 47-year-old Carol Meston. 

  • Mills County Inmates No Longer Accepted In Montgomery County

    RED OAK - The Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center will no longer accept Mills County inmates due to an unpaid $17,000 medical bill.

    The Mills County Jail is not equipped to house women on a long-term basis, so the county had been transporting its female inmates to the Montgomery County facility in Red Oak. Montgomery County Sheriff Joe Sampson said he was following protocol when he sought  approval from Mills County Sheriff Eugene Goos to take a female inmate to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital (MCMH) for medical care.

  • Nebraska Man Facing Child Sex Abuse Charges

    A Bellevue, Neb., man is facing charges of performing sexual acts with two girls, ages 7 and 8, in Mills County and Sarpy County, Neb.

    Johh Schondelmeyer, 64, was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and two counts of lascivious acts with a child.
