  • Mills County Abortion Clinic?

        A Mills County resident who serves as the minister of a Council Bluffs church told the Glenwood City Council last week that he believes the community is on the radar of Dr. Leroy Carhart as a potential site for a late-term abortion clinic.
        Rev. Lonnie Parton addressed his concerns at the regular meeting of the city council last Tuesday, Dec. 14.

        A Glenwood resident has been given 60 days to reduce the number of cats residing and congregating on her property.
        Deborah Wilcoxson, 205 First Street, came before the city council last Tuesday to address a nuisance abatement notice she had received from the city concerning animals at her residence.

  • Republicans Prevail in Mills County

    Republican candidates easily won county, state and federal races in last Tuesday’s general election in Mills County, while Glenwood residents  rejected a $2.2 million bond issue that would have partially funded construction of an outdoor swimming pool.

  • Supervisors Focus Of Forum

        Candidates for the three Mills County Courthouse positions up for election this year took part in a public forum Thursday night at the Glenwood American Legion.
        The majority of the written questions from audience members were directed at supervisor candidates Richard Crouch (incumbent Republican) and Jack May (candidate by petition). Several questions were also asked of county treasurer candidate Craig Florian (candidate by petition).

  • Plea Bargain Reached In Pit Bull Case

    An Omaha man arrested last spring for the abuse and neglect of more than 20 pit bulls on a property near Pacific Junction has agreed to a plea bargain with the Mills County Attorney’s Office.

    Michael J. Simet, 56, pleaded guilty on Sept. 21 to animal torture and animal neglect, both aggravated misdemeanors.

    If the sentencing judge agrees to the deal, Simet will receive a suspended jail sentence of four years, placed on supervised probation for a year and serve a week in the Mills County Jail. Simet will also not be allowed to own any animals during his supervised probation.
