  • Early School Board Voting Underway

    Ballots for Glenwood and East Mills school district residents who would like to vote early or absentee in the Sept. 10 board of education elections are available at the Mills County Auditor’s Office in Glenwood. Early voters can cast their ballots Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. until Election Day.

    Mills County Auditor Carol Robertson said the last day absentee ballots will be mailed out is Friday, Sept. 6. Absentee ballot requests can be made by calling the auditor’s office at 527-3146.

  • Feeling At Home

    Genie Wickham and Shane Stephens have something more in common than being first-year principals in the Glenwood Community School District.

    For both Wickham and Stephens, Glenwood is a sort of homecoming.

    Wickham is a 1985 Glenwood Community High School graduate and Stephens, also a 1985 graduate, is a Stanton native who still calls southwest Iowa home after serving as an administrator in Davenport and Perry.

  • Glenwood On Google Map

    Glenwood Community School District is hosting a Google Apps for Education Summit  July 15-16.
    The summit, which is co-sponsored by the school district and the Green Hills Area Education Agency, will bring southwest Iowa educators together to discuss using Google and Google apps in teaching and technology curriculum.

  • Preschool Teacher Wins Lakin Award

    Northeast Elementary preschool teacher Liz Jensen is one of two recipients of the prestigious Charles E. Lakin Outstanding Teacher Award for 2013.

    A surprised Jensen was presented the award Monday afternoon at an all-school assembly in the school gymnasium.

  • School District Budget Approved

    The Glenwood Board of Education formally approved the school district’s 2014 budget at its monthly board meeting last Monday in the Glenwood Community High School Media Center.

  • District Names New West Principal

    Glenwood Superintendent Devin Embray has formally recommended the hiring of Genie Wickham as the new principal at West Elementary School.

    If approved at the April 8 Glenwood Community School District Board of Directors’ meeting, Wickham would take over for Kevin Farmer as West’s new principal on July 1. Farmer announced in February he would be retiring at the end of the current school year.

  • Administrative Law Judge Selected For Principal's Hearing

    The administrative law judge who will preside over the hearing that will decide the fate of suspended Glenwood Principal Kerry Newman has been selected.

    Kathy Collins Reilly, an adjunct professor at Drake University Law School and former legal director of the School Administrators of Iowa, has been tabbed to serve as administrative law judge in Newman’s yet-to-be scheduled hearing.

  • Date, Venue For Principal's Hearing Yet To Be Determined

    Glenwood Community Schools Superintendent Devin Embray expects a hearing concerning Glenwood Community High School principal Kerry Newman’s job status to take place in the coming weeks, but the date and location are yet to be determined.

    In a closed-door meeting on Feb. 12,  the Glenwood School Board voted unanimously to consider terminating Newman’s contract.
     
    Newman had been the subject of an investigation by Embray since being placed on paid administrative leave Jan. 18.

  • Principal Fighting To Keep Her Job

    Glenwood Community High School Principal Kerry Newman said she hand delivered the necessary paperwork to the Glenwood Community School District’s central office Monday to appeal the Glenwood Board of Education’s recommendation to terminate her contract.

    Newman has been the subject of an investigation by school district superintendent  Devin Embray since being placed on paid administrative leave Jan. 18.
