  • Glenwood’s $5 million outdoor aquatic center, located adjacent to the auxiliary gymnasium at Glenwood Community High School, will open to the public following a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday afternoon, July 8.

    Mary Gunderson, a longtime advocate for the outdoor swimming pool project, said the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m.

    The pool will open around 1 p.m.

  • MALVERN - Stop in for lunch over the noon hour at the Classic Café in Malvern and there’s a good chance you’ll catch pianist Bill Gilbert playing a familiar show tune or easy listening number.

    Gilbert, 85, comes by the café three or four times a week (usually during the lunch hour) to play the piano perched on a loft near the front window.

  • MALVERN - Carrie “Avis” Jones isn’t surprised that she’s lived to be 100 years old.
    It’s in her genes.

  • Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, the 2013 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical from the creators of South Pacific and The Sound of Music, will play Omaha’s Orpheum Theater Tuesday, March 15, through Sunday, March 20. The touring production is part of the Omaha Performing Arts Broadway series.

  • Dorothy Buch didn’t need time to think of an answer when asked recently what the secret was to reaching her 100th birthday.

    The Linnwood Estates assisted living resident answered the question with one word – vinegar.

    “My little secret is vinegar,” Dorothy said. “Every morning, since I was 25, I drink vinegar, about a teaspoon. I put it in a little glass with about two tablespoons of water. Vinegar is a cleanser and it gets rid a lot of bacteria. I tell people I get pickled every morning.”

  • Accidents
        June 17 – A vehicle driven by Andrew Brant of Pacific Junction was eastbound on Coolidge Road when the vehicle left the roadway and went across an empty parking lot, striking a building. No injuries were reported.

        June 18 – Michael Rupe of Glenwood reported a burglary and theft.
        June 26 - Kelly Hall of Omaha  reported a domestic abuse assault.
