Luke Schafer scored a game-high 31 points to lead East Mills to a 65-45 victory over Walnut in the Class 1A, District 1 quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Wolverines (18-4) blew open the game with a 17-7 second-quarter run and put the Warriors away on a 21-10 third-quarter run.
East Mills limited Walnut to 31.5 percent (17-of-54) shooting and held a 37 to 22 rebounding edge.
“We actually didn’t shoot it real well and struggled a little bit on offense in our slow start but we passed it well and played good defense,” said East Mills coach Kevin Schafer. “They’re short on kids, they suited up just seven, so they kind of wore down.”
Schafer hit 13-of-22 shots for his 31 points, including 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Daniel Duysen added 10 points.
Lucas Blum (17 points), Zach Hemminger (15) and Jared Ploen (12) scored all 44 points for Walnut.
