Wolverines plate 18 in victory

    The East Mills baseball team won its conference opener 18-8 over Sidney last Tuesday.  
    “This game was much closer than the score indicates,” said East Mills coach Cole Buchholz.  “We scored 13 runs in the final two innings after trailing 7-5 going into the sixth.  Both teams made lots of errors, but we battled it out and put the ball in play.”
    Charlie Ruff got the win on the mound, allowing seven hits,  four earned runs, and striking out 10.  
    Offensively,  Ruff helped his own cause, driving in two runs and reaching base four times.
    Luke Schafer drove in two runs, scored twice and stole a base.  

Logan-Magnolia 14,
East Mills 2
    The East Mills baseball team dropped its season-opener 14-2 to Logan Magnolia last Monday.  
    Daniel Duysen took the loss on the hill for the Wolverines, going 2 and 2/3 innings and scattering six hits  and two earned runs. The senior right-hander also walked nine.
    Austin Sommerla threw the final 2 1/3 inning in relief, allowing six runs, two earned.
    “12 walks and a hit batter did us in defensively,” said East Mills coach Cole Buchholz.
    Offensively the  Wolverines had four hits and struck out 12 times.
Luke Schafer had a hit and walked twice.
    Charlie Ruff had an RBI single and scored a run.
    Duysen singled and drove in a run.
