TABOR – Essex /South Page managed to hang with Fremont-Mills for a portion of the first quarter Friday night, but once the Knights got their offense rolling, there was little ESP could do to slow down the defending state champions.

Fremont Mills spotted ESP a touchdown in the first minute of the game, a 54-yard run scamper by Jacob Sunderman, before reeling off 75 unanswered points en route to a 75-16 eight-player District 8 win.
“Defensively, we missed some assignments in the first quarter,” F-M coach Jeremy Christiansen said. “But, once we got rockin’ and rollin,’ I thought we executed pretty well.”
Offensively, the Knights were unstoppable, accumulating 444 yards of total offense, 330 on the ground and 114 in the air. Senior running back Clayton Wilson was the offensive performer of the night for F-M, scoring seven touchdowns and generating 280 yards of total offense, all in the first half.
Wilson had touchdown runs of 41, 46, 56 and 41 yards, TD receptions of 37 and 15 yards and a 27-yard interception return for a score.
“He’s a very special athlete,” Christiansen said.
With F-M opening up a 55-8 lead before halftime, the clock ran continuously for the third and fourth quarters because of the 35-point “mercy rule.” Christiansen substituted freely in the second half as the Knights’ lead widened.
With the win, F-M improves to 4-0 on the season and extends its winning streak to 17 games, the second longest in the state.  The Trojans’ record falls to 3-2.
“We just have to stay focused every game and keep marching forward,” Christiansen said.
F-M’s leading tacklers against ESP were Seth Phillips and Spencer Phillips with 14 and 10 stops respectively.
The Knights host Stanton this week before traveling to Sidney on Sept. 28 in a game that will go a long way in determining the district championship, but Christiansen won't let his team look ahead.
“We will talk about nobody else but Stanton this week,” Christiansen told his players after the win over ESP.
ESP statistics were not available at press time. The Trojans are at home this week taking on CAM.
