Thomas Ware led four players in double-figures with 15 points for the Fremont-Mills boys basketball team in an 80-44 Corner Conference victory over Hamburg on Friday.

The Knights shot 46.4 percent from the field (26-of-56) and 21-of-41 from the free throw line.

Ryan Menicucci pitched in with 14 points and Dylan Miller and Nate Meier each added 10 points and six rebounds.

Fremont-Mills 53,

Clarinda Academy 44

The Fremont-Mills boys basketball team outscored Clarinda Academy 18-10 in the final quarter to post a 53-44 Corner Conference victory last Tuesday.

“This was a great win for our kids,” said Fremont-Mills coach Matt Thompson. “Clarinda Academy is a hard team to defend, their guards are quick, and handle the ball well, and their ‘bigs’ go to the glass extremely well.

“Going into the game, we wanted to contain the dribbler, take care of the ball, do a better job of blocking out, and attack the basket on offense. We limited them to 44 points.”

The Eagles had downed the Knights a week earlier 62-48 in the quarterfinals of the Corner Conference tournament.

Brandon Herrick led the Knights with 15 points while Nate Meier added 10. Dylan Miller and Nick Williams each chipped in nine points. But, more importantly than their balanced scoring, said Thompson, his team rebounded as well as they have all season.

“Miller, Herrick, and (Ryan) Menicucci did a good job rebounding,” said Thompson of his three top rebounders who combined for 25 boards. “When we attacked the basket we got to the line. We ended up shooting 16 more free throws than they did (20-4) so we did a good job of executing on both ends of the court.”

Angelo Kennedy led Clarinda Academy with 12 points and 19 rebounds.
