Westover free throws lift

A pair of A.J. Westover free throws with :06 on the clock was the difference for the East Mills boys basketball team in a 59-57 victory over Clarinda Academy on Friday.

Westover, who led three Wolverines in double-figures with 22 points, hit 8-of-9 free throws in the win and grabbed five steals.

Jake Doyle added 14 points and Luke Schafer 12 for East Mills.

Angelo Kennedy led Clarinda Academy with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

East Mills 56,

Essex 55

Jake Doyle and Jake Bolton combined for 26 points for East Mills as the Wolverines built a 14-point lead and then hung on late for a 56-55 Corner Conference victory over Essex last Tuesday.

The Wolverines outscored the Trojans 36-22 in the first half and shot 50 percent from the field for the game (20-of-40).

Doyle finished with 15 points and Bolton 11. Bolton added seven rebounds.

A.J. Westover chipped in 10 points and three steals.
