The Glenwood girls basketball team outscored Atlantic 13-2 in the third quarter to pull away for a 56-43 victory on Saturday.
“That was pretty big for us,” said Glenwood coach Leon Portrey of the decisive third quarter run. “Our defense picked up, our offense played good and Tori (Kruse) hit a couple of three’s that were big.”
Kruse led the Rams (11-10 overall, 8-10 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) with 17 points, hitting four three pointers, and grabbing five rebounds.
The Rams’ inside play of Morgan Lucy (12 points, 13 rebounds) and Chelsea Konfrst (11 points, nine rebounds) was also key, said Portrey.
“They beat us by 10 points up at their place last time,” said Portrey. “We executed better this time on offense, defense and rebounding.”
The Rams held a 42-23 rebounding edge.
The Denison girls basketball team outscored Glenwood 35-13 in the first half en route to a 67-28 Hawkeye 10 Conference victory last Tuesday.
“They are just too quick and too good,” said Glenwood coach Leon Portrey. “And when they were hitting like they were from the perimeter, they’re even better. We just couldn’t get anything done on offense.”
Morgan Lucy led the Rams with 10 points.
Amanda Eller and Brooke Wehle combined for 26 points.
