Three communities in Mills County are making their final preparations for RAGBRAI.
The Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa will pass through the county Sunday, the first day of the ride, as bicyclists make their way from Council Bluffs to Red Oak for their first overnight stop.
Riders will travel south out of Council Bluffs on Highway 275. A few miles into Mills County, the route heads east on Barrus Road (H-12) toward Mineola. After passing through Mineola, riders will continue east on H-12, south on Highway 242 for less than a mile and then east again on H-12 in the direction of Henderson.
From Henderson, the route continues east to the intersection with Highway 59. From there, it’s south to Emerson, the last pass-through town for the day.
The final nine miles of the 52-mile day has riders taking old Highway 34 from Emerson to Red Oak.
More than 10,000 bicyclists and hundreds of support personnel are expected to take part in this year’s ride across the state.
