The Glenwood girls golf team placed third at the Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln Tournament at Dodge Park Golf Course last Wednesday.
Konigsmark was extremely pleased with her team's performance.
“This is the best team score we have had all year,” she said. “The girls are being competitive and have set their goals high.”
Morgan Woodrum placed 10th overall for Glenwood. Teammates Charley Arno and Bobi Joe Rockwell were12th and 15th, respectively..
“Morgan had two rounds shooting in the mid 50's and played great,” said Konigsmark. “Charley Arno consistently shot good scores as well. Each of those girls received individual medals and each player on the team received a medal for placing third in the tournament.”
Maddee Sell has another great performance shooting a round in the 50's again.
“I wasn't sure how we would end up,” Konigsmark said. “There was a lightning delay and rain continuously poured throughout the day. So, under those conditions, our girls and team played fantastic. I am very proud of them.”
Rams seventh at Atlantic
On Tuesday, the Glenwood girls golf team placed seventh at Atlantic's Betty Heflin Invitational.
Jennifer Geer from Clarinda won in a playoff for first place against Alex Curry from Shenandoah.
Glenwood girls were led by Bobi Jo Rockwell's front nine 45 on her first nine and a final round 103.
“That is the lowest score any girl has shot on the team this year so far,” said Glenwood coach Kathy Konigsmark.
Charley Arno consistently shot a 111 and Morgan Woodrum a 120.
“Charley Arno, Bobi Jo Rockwell, and Morgan Woodrum are the nucleus of the team,” said Konigsmark. “Every week, each of those girls are in the top three. Their goal is to shoot break 100 in 18 holes.”
Maddee Sell, a freshman, also played well for Glenwood. She shot a 127.
“Maddee has been playing real strong in the last part of the season. This is her first time shooting in the 50's,” said Konigsmark.
Clarinda downed Glenwood 174-249 in Hawkeye 10 Girls Golf last Monday.
Clarinda's Jennifer Geer was the medalist shooting a 37. Amanda Garner was runner-up, from Clarinda, shooting a 40.
The Rams were led by Charley Arno's 59.
"Clarinda has a well-balanced team with strong players especially at No. 1 and No. 2 spots,” said Glenwood coach Kathy Konigsmark. “The course was soft and wet which hurt us some as we didn't get much roll. Our scores were a little bit higher than normal but some days are like that.
“Charley had several penalty strokes that hurt her in the round so she needs to use better course management to help her game.”
Morgan Woodrum for Glenwood placed second shooting a 60.
“I was very pleased with her score,” said Konigsmark of Woodrum, who return for the first time since an April injury. “This was the first time Morgan has played since her injury. There were many steep hills to climb and she handled them well considering she tore ligaments in her ankle less than three weeks ago.”
In other varsity scores, Bobi Joe Rockwell shot a 62, Kylee Harms a 67, Maddie Sell a 68 and Chelsee Bird a 71.
Cassie Ford shot a 60 to the lead the Ram junior varsity.
“This is Cassie's first year out for golf. She has been a good addition to our team. She never gives up,” said Konigsmark.
