Johnny Fuller led four Glenwood runners in the top 10 as the Rams took the team title at the Southern Cal-Lake City Cross Country Invitational last Tuesday.
The Rams' edged Kuemper Catholic 29 points to 35. Glenwood coach Todd Peverill knew the meet would likely be a dogfight between his team and the Knights.
“They’re a very good team, said Peverill of Kuemper, who will likely be the Rams’ main competition at Thursday’s Hawkeye 10 Conference meet at Glenwood Lake Park. “It’s going to come down to them and us I think. We feel pretty good. We think we have a huge advantage being on our home course.”
Fuller’s time of 16:58, which was 24 seconds better than the runner up, was admittedly slower than his recent times, said Peverill, but Tuesday’s cold, windy weather slowed a lot of times.
“I was happy with the times considering the weather,” said Peverill.
Kyle Wheeler placed fourth for Glenwood in 18:08. Mark Abrams was fifth in 18:32, Jakob Rhodes was ninth in 18:32 and Alex Neff 10th in 18:38.
Peverill said second place and 10th place was separated by just 1:30.
Justin Sunderland was 18th for Glenwood in 19:10.
Peverill said the meet was a nice primer for the conference meet. The Rams are looking for their second straight conference title following last season’s crown.
“The kids are excited to see where we are. It’ll be a good meet,” said Peverill.
