Rams swat Tigers, 6-3

The Glenwood boys tennis team opened its 2010 season on its new courts with the school's first victory in recent memory over Red Oak in Hawkeye 10 Conference tennis last Monday.

The Tigers smashed the Rams 8-1 in last year's season-opener, taking five of six singles matches and all but one doubles match. This year's opener would be nearly a complete reversal with Glenwood posting a 6-3 dual win.

Grant Nikseresht, the Rams' No. 1 singles player, outlasted freshman Peter Walker 10-7 in his win. Chawin Tiyajinda, Dillon Stane and Grant Stivers each added singles wins.

Tiyajinda, a relative unknown foreign exchange student who showed up the first day of practice, has already worked his way into the No. 2 singles role and pairs with Nikseresht for a formidable doubles tandem. Tiyajinda won his singles match 10-6 over the Tigers' Matt Goracke.
