The Glenwood defense bottled up Riverside, allowing just one shot on goal, in a 6-0 rout of Riverside in non-conference girls soccer last Tuesday.
The Rams (3-1 overall, 1-0 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) got on the board early and often against the Bulldogs. Just three minutes into the game Sydney Gutschenritter connected with Sydney Stivers on an assist and goal. Sarah Homan and a Riverside own-goal later and Glenwood was in control 3-0 at intermission.
“We were able to find the goal pretty quickly in the game,” said Glenwood coach Amy Benson. “The girls continue to become more experienced running the 4-4-2 (scheme) in games. It was nice to have some different players find the back of the net.”
Sydney Johnson, Ana Frazee and Homan again each found the back of the net in the final 40 minutes. Johnson’s goal came on a nice cross pass from Danni Finn and Frazee beat a defender one-on-one to score her first goal of the season. Homan dribbled three defenders and scored unassisted with her left foot in the 65th minute. Homan leads the Rams with four goals this season.
Ram starting goal-keeper Kristin Nakamoto faced zero shots in the first half and second half starter Rileigh Spahn faced just one shot.
