The Glenwood girls tennis team finished fourth as a team with 19 points at the Atlantic Invitational on Saturday.

Harlan was the team champion with three teams tied for third with 18 points.

The Rams' Grace Newman and Rachel Tucker placed second in the doubles tournament. The freshmen defeated a duo from Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 8-4 in the opening round and then knocked off a Harlan tandem to set up a final against Altantic's Morgan Allen and Tierney Kamies in the final.

Newman and Tucker jumped out to a 7-4 lead and had triple match point, but Allen and Kamies, both juniors, used their experience to battle back and snatch the victory 9-7.

Glenwood's Lu Fanottoli played at the No. 1 singles spot for the first time on Saturday at Atlantic. The sophomore medaled, placing fourth overall. Fanottoli started the day off crushing Amber Allison, a senior from Des Moines Lincoln, 10 - 1.

“She did a great job of keeping the ball in play and created a number of winning shots,” said Glenwood coach Jim Tucker.

Fanottoli lost her next matches to Clarinda's Beth Reiter and Harlan's Megan Kaufman.

Ana VanScoy and Marely Chavez teamed in the No. 1 doubles spot and finished sixth overall.
