More Road Closures

Flooding Causing Travel Problems in SW Iowa

By Joe Foreman, Editor

A levee breach along the Missouri River near Percival Thursday morning coincided with the closing of another portion of Interstate 29 in western Iowa.

The interstate was closed Thursday at the Bartlett exit (Exit 24) in Fremont County and detour signs encouraged southbound motorists on I-29 to exit at the Glenwood interchange (Exit 35) so they could head east on Highway 34 to connect with Highway 275,  Highway 59 or Highway 71 to continue southbound travel.
Other closures in Fremont County include Waubonsie Ave. between Bartlett and Tabor and most roads west of Interstate 29.
Several roads west of the interstate in western Mills County have also been closed over the past two weeks - including 190th Street south of Kane Ave. through Old Highway 34, Karns and Hammond roads at 180th Street, 180th Street south of Kane, Nims Road from 195th Street to the river, and 195th Street south of old 34.
The closure of 190th Street combined with construction work along the Pacific Junction interchange bridge on I-29 (Exit 32) has complicated the drive for motorists traveling between Mills County and Plattsmouth, Neb.
The only access to the Plattsmouth Bridge is to take southbound Interstate 29 to Exit 32 and head west on Old Highway 34.
Coming east from Plattsmouth, motorists must get on southbound I-29 at Exit 32, get off at the Bartlett exit and return to Mills County on northbound I-29.
