MALVERN - Chantry Elementary School was in lockdown mode Friday morning, Oct. 15, as Mills County Sheriff’s deputies searched the neighborhood near the school for a subject believed to be armed and dangerous that had been involved in a domestic disturbance at 94 Main Street in Malvern.
Mills County deputies responded to the address around 8 a.m. after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance involving a handgun. Upon arrival, deputies were told that the suspect had left the scene in a white Dodge sedan. The vehicle was located by a deputy minutes later parked near Chantry Elementary. A lockdown at the school was initiated as a precautionary measure after deputies informed school officials that the suspect could be armed and dangerous.
Mills County Sheriff Eugene Goos said deputies were unable to locate the suspect during their initial search of the area, however he was apprehended later in the day at the same residence where the alleged disturbance had taken place. Billy Ray Hunter, 33, of Council Bluffs, was arrested and charged with domestic abuse with intent to display a weapon and possession of a controlled substance. He was being held in the Mills County Jail on $2,000 bond.
