Members of Silver City’s Gordon May American Legion Post 439 rolled out the red carpet for American Legion national vice commander Glenn Hickman last Tuesday evening, Nov. 13.
Hickman, a U.S. Air Force veteran from Grove City, Ohio, made an appearance in Silver City as part of his 28-stop tour of Legion posts in central and western Iowa.
Hickman was accompanied on his tour by state commander Lyle Schaffer of Galva and state membership chairman James Demarest.
“We want to recognize the many communities in Iowa for their efforts in welcoming all military veterans home from all war eras and thank those that are currently serving to protect our freedoms, just like the many wars before,” Schaffer said. “Businesses in Iowa have stepped up and answered the call to make jobs available to our returning troops and their families, and have gone to great lengths to ensure their jobs were waiting for them when they came back.”
Hickman gave a brief address, thanking veterans from Silver City and other southwest Iowa communities for their commitment to American Legion causes. The Silver City post received special recognition for surpassing its membership goals.
