The $2.5 million Mills County Community Center building proposed for the Mills County Fairgrounds in Malvern got a major shot in the arm last week when the Charles E. Lakin Foundation announced it was committing $1 million to the project.

The 16,000 square-foot, climate-controlled building would be utilized for a variety of activities during the county fair, such as project judging, fair queen pageant, style and talent shows. It  would feature a full kitchen, bathrooms, storage areas, utility room, attached bathroom and shower facilities. The facility would also serve as an events center and large social hall that could be utilized 12 months out of the year. It could also serve as a storm shelter and a building for emergency housing.

Fundraising efforts for the project are continuing. Potential donors can contact any of the following Mills County Fairgrounds Building Committee members - Bob Blum (712-520-6663), Nathan Mass (712-624-8655), Chad McCollester (712-525-9201), Brady Smith (712-309-5956) or Woody Wright (402-740-4028).
