CORNING - Fremont-Mills’ Kevin Herrick and East Mills’ Nick Pittmon won three events each to win automatic bids to this week’s state track meet with their performances at the Class 1A District meet at Corning on Thursday.

Herrick took home gold in the high jump, 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles. He will be joined at state by teammate Clayton Wilson, who won the 110-meter high hurdles, and Mackenzy Lang who won the 3,200-meters.

Also qualifying for state for the Knights was Jason Rusten (3,200-meters) and Spencer Phillips (discus).

East Mills got gold medal performances from Pittmon in the 100, 200 and the long jump. He also anchored the 4x200-meter relay to a first place showing.

Travis Tupper was a triple qualifier in both the 200 and 400-meters and the 4x100-meter relay.

“I knew coming in we had the fastest times in the 100, the 200 and the long jump and we could win those events and do good enough in the relays to get them in without having to stack them with Pittmon and Tupper, we could do good there,” said East Mills coach Claude Lang. “I knew our times were good enough to get in if we just repeated what we did at our last meet.”

On the girls side, Fremont-Mills Kelsey Hurley won the high jump title and helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a gold medal. Hurley also qualified for state in the 100 and 200-meters.
