A 66-year-old Glenwood man was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree kidnapping, two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and indecent contact with a child.
Daniel L. Walden, who resides at 1414 Gateway Dr., is accused of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12 after luring the child into his home. The age and gender of the victim is not being released to protect the child’s privacy, Mills County Attorney Eric Hansen said.
Hansen said the alleged assault was not a recent incident and the investigation is ongoing as investigators try to determine if there are additional victims.
“In these types of cases, we want to make sure there aren’t any other victims out there,” Hansen said.
Walden has no previous criminal history, Hansen said, but was being held without bond in the Mills County Jail. Hansen said Walden’s income exceeds guidelines established for defendants seeking a court-appointed attorney.
If convicted of the kidnapping charge, Walden faces life in prison. The sexual abuse charges carry a sentence of up to 25 years in prison and the indecent contact charge is a misdemeanor punishable by up to two years.
Walden’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 19, the same day he has his 67th birthday.
The Glenwood Police Department has requested any person with additional information about Walden’s involvement in the alleged incident to call 527-9920.
