Four of the 20 members of the Hawkeye 10 Conference All-Academic Team are students at Glenwood Community High School.
Alexa Bledsoe, Annaleah Herrman, Jonathan Schoening and Nicole Sowers were recognized as members of the team at a banquet in Atlantic on April 8.
Ms. Bledsoe is the vice president of the National Honor Society, captain of the tennis team, an individual speech participant and a member of the Reach/SADD Advisory Council. She plans to study architectural engineering at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Ms. Herrman is editor of the school newspaper, a member of the National Honor Society and involved in speech, band and cross country. She will attend either Simpson College or Grinnell College to study English and Social Science.
Schoening is involved in band, track, cross country, Reach/SADD and is a member of Peter Kiewit’s Academy of Excellence. He plans to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University or Clarke College to study biochemistry.
Ms. Sowers is a member of the National Honor Society, president of the Key Club and Spanish Club, involved in Mentoring With Heart and Reach/SADD. She plans to attend Brown University, Yale University or Princeton University to study biology and pre-medicine.
Also recognized at the April 8 banquet were 10 Character Award winners from the 10 conference schools. The recipient of the award from Glenwood is Devonne Blankenship.
She’s a cheerleading captain, FFA vice president, 4-H president and is involved in soccer. She plans to major in dietetics at Iowa State University.
