As expected, Republican candidates prevailed in last Tuesday's general election in Mills County.
Republicans Lonnie Mayberry and Ron Kohn were elected to occupy two seats on the Mills County Board of Supervisors, garnering 4,351 and 3,381 votes respectively. Jack May, a candidate by petition, finished a distant third with 2,657 votes.
Mills County Auditor Carol Robertson and Mills County Sheriff Eugene Goos, who were both running unopposed, won re-election easily.
In the presidential race, despite losing the statewide and national vote, Republican Mitt Romney carried Mills County with 4,211 votes. President Barack Obama, a Democrat, received 2,842 votes. Libertarian Gary Johnson finished a very distant third with 68 votes, followed by Green Party candidate Jill Stein with 19 and Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party with 14. Three other candidates received votes along with a scattering of write-ins.
Republican Tom Latham defeated Democrat Leonard Boswell in Mills County for the District 3 House of Representative seat by a margin of 4,273-2,078. Latham carried the entire district by a count of 201,457 - 167,965.
In the race for an at-large seat on the Glenwood City Council, Stephen Fornoff edged Jeremy Wade Rodman, 829-782.
The voter turnout for Tuesday's election in Mills County was 67.4 percent (7,234 of 10,731 registered voters).
