The Glenwood wrestling team picked up the team title and avenged an earlier loss to Council Bluffs Lewis Central in the championship match at the Sioux City Heelan Duals on Saturday.
The Rams, who lost to the Titans in a tight conference dual 42-32 on Jan. 12, defeated Council Bluffs Lewis Central 35-24 in the championship match at Heelan to win the dual tournament. Glenwood knocked off Sioux City East 45-34, LeMars 39-33 and Lincoln (Neb.) East 39-34 to reach the finals.
“It was a really good day for us,” said Glenwood coach Brad Asche. “I told them before the meet we were going to win the first four duals and get L.C. in the finals. It feels good to avenge a loss we thought we should have won.”
A.J. Clark (138 pounds) and Hunter Hoffman (182) both went 5-0 at the duals. Sam Jameson (120), Seth Warren (126) and Alex Killpack (285) were all 4-1.
“We looked good,” Asche said. “A couple of the guys really wrestled well. This is a tough week coming up and we feel like we're peaking at the right time.”
Glenwood improves its dual record to 14-4 on the season.
The Rams head to Clarinda on Saturday for the Hawkeye 10 Conference Meet.
