The Glenwood wrestling team placed fourth at Harlan’s Dan Hill Invitational on Saturday. Urbandale edged Logan-Magnolia 189 to 175 for the team title. The Rams’ compiled 146.5 team points thanks the first place finishes of Nate Harms (112 pounds) and Steve Gutschenritter (119) and the runner-up showings of A.J. Clark (103), Joey Bryan (189) and Colin White (285). “We wrestled much better on Saturday than we did on Thursday,” Glenwood coach Matt Dyer referring to his team’s double-dual split to open the season. “Our goals for this tournament were to place in the top two, have three to five finalists, and have two or three champions. We finished fourth, had five finalists, and had two champions. “We met two of our goals, but we probably should have got all three. The team points were spread out among all of the top five teams. If we would have had one or two more guys place we probably would have placed second.” Team Scores 1. Urbandale, 189. 2. Logan-Magnolia, 175. 3. Harlan, 162.5. 4. Glenwood, 146.5. 5. Rams split double-dual The Glenwood wrestling team split a season-opening double-dual with Battle Creek-Ida Grove-Odebolt-Arthur and Kuemper Catholic on Thursday. The Rams fell 51-33 to BCIGOA in the opener before bouncing back to win the night cap 67-12 over Kuemper. “We didn’t perform like I expected,” said Glenwood coach Matt Dyer. “I am a little disappointed about how we performed. We did a good job with our technique but we didn’t seem to have a fire in our belly. We seemed a little timid to wrestle. BCIGOA has a good team and I knew it would be a close dual if everything were to go the way I planned it. They are a quality team with a few ranked guys. I think those rankings got to some of our guys heads and they didn’t perform as well as they should have.’ Against Kuemper, Dyer thought his kids were a different team. “The kids came out aggressive and attacked their opponents,” said Dyer. “It’s a long season and you can’t judge the whole year on two duals. We will learn from our mistakes and we will get better.” Nick Harms (112), Tyler Maxwell (130), Joey Bryan (189) and Colin White (285) all won both of their matches.
