The Glenwood girls track team racked up 132 points for first place to win the Hawkeye 10 Conference Southern Division title in Creston last Tuesday.

The Rams easily out-paced second place Shenandoah, 132 to 86 in the team standings behind eight gold medal winning performances.

“Overall we like the effort which led to the results,” said Glenwood coach Brad Rasmussen. “Our field events seem to be strong and everything on the track is progressing.”

The Rams almost completed the sweep in the field events with Jacy Embray (shot), Linnaea Konfrst (discus) and Molly Dean (high jump) all winning golds. Sarah Salerno added a silver medal in the long jump.

Courtney Magnussen had a strong day for the Rams, winning the 100 and 200-meters and running a leg on the gold medal winning 4x100-meter relay.

The Rams’ shuttle hurdle relay team of Miranda Ruth, Ashley Konfrst, Molly Dean and Olivia Scarborough won gold with a top time of 1:10.61.

Despite his team’s success in the relays, Rasmussen did see one area of needed improvement.

“The technique – starts, handoffs – is where we need to focus and to continue working on conditioning,” he said.
Ruth and Olivia Scarborough were first and second in the 100-meter hurdles.
