Glenwood girls tennis wins second straight

    The Glenwood girls tennis team improved its record to 2-0 on the season with a 7-2 victory over Atlantic in  a Hawkeye 10 Conference dual last Tuesday.  
    Ana Van Scoy, Rachel Tucker, Chloe Newman, and Abee Stipe each claimed their second victories of the season.
    Van Scoy was strong on first serves and played very aggressively at the net, said  Ohm, which helped her beat the Trojans’ No. 1 Liz Metheny, 10-6. 
    Tucker and Stipe held off their opponents for close victories, with identical 10-8 scores.  
    Leading 5-1 after the singles matches, the Rams needed just one more win but claimed all three singles matches to wrap up the dual win.
    Newman and Stipe trailed at the beginning of their match 5-1, but crushed Schreiner and Kamies in the next nine games to win 10-5.  Cronk and Chavez also trailed at the beginning of their doubles match but pulled out a win in a tiebreaker 7-1.  
    Van Scoy and Tucker played very well and were aggressive with every shot taken, winning 10-7.
    The Ram junior varsity team also claimed their second victory of the season beating the Trojans 9-2.

    No. 5 – Grace Newman, G, defeated Sarah Schreiner, A, 10-2.
    No. 6 – Abbe Stipe, G, defeated Tierney Kamies, A, 10-8.

    No. 1 - Van Scoy/Tucker, G, defeated Metheny/Svoboda, A, 10-7.
    No. 2 – Cronk/Chavez, G, defeated Thornton/Allen, A, 11-10 (7-1).
    No. 3 – Newman/Stipe, G, defeated Schreiner/Kamies, A, 10-5.

    Glenwood swept the doubles matches and went 5-1 in singles to defeat Council Bluffs Lewis Central 8-1 in Hawkeye 10 Conference girls tennis last Monday.
    Ana Van Scoy fell behind early 5-1 to Lewis Central’s Mattie Misfeldt in their No. 1 match before roaring back to force a tie breaker at 8-8.  Van Scoy would win it at 9-7 in a tie-breaker.
    Sophomore Rachel Tucker, the Rams’ No. 3, would also trail early in her match before rebounding to win seven of the next 8 games to win 8-3.  
    Marley Chavez was involved in a pair of great matches that ended in Glenwood wins as she won 9-8 in singles and teamed up with Shelby Cronk for a 9-8 doubles victory.  
    Grace Newman easily won her singles match and teamed up with Abbe Stipe to win their doubles match 8-2.   
    “The team showed a lot of grit winning three tie-breaker matches,” said Glenwood co-head coach Jim Tucker. “It is a great sign to get these types of victories early in the season.  The Lady Rams take on a senior dominated Atlantic team tonight in Glenwood.”
    The junior varsity Rams won their match 5-2 and were lead by Brittney Rogers and Montana Crow who swept their singles matches 6-1 and won doubles as well.
