The Glenwood girls track team placed second at the Class 3A Regionals at Winterset on Friday with the Rams advancing in nine events to the Iowa State Track Meet this week is Des Moines.

Atlantic ran away with the team title with 173 points to Glenwood's 121.

“This was a very good meed, a lot of fun,” said Glenwood coach Brad Rasmussen. “I think what impressed me most about the meet was the crowd. They really got into cheering us on and I think that really helped. Having that crowd behind you really helps.”

The Rams had a particularly strong day in the relay events, getting first place finishes from their sprint medley team of Ciara Clement, Shaneice Nott, Shelby Brewster and Lydia Bienlien and second place finishes from their 4x800, distance medley, shuttle hurdle, 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams.

Rasmussen had trouble pinpoint one stand out performance – which is just the way he likes it.

“All of our qualifiers had great a great meet,” said Ramussen. “They all put in such great effort but then so did the girls that really competed hard but didn't make state. Laura Chekal (isixth n the 3,000-meters) shaved nearly 20 seconds off her personal best and Jordan Ruhr placed in both the shot and discus. They didn't make state but they really contributed and competed hard.”

Lydia Bienlien won the 400-meter dash, Jenna Turcotte the 800 and Lexi Fisher the 400-meter hurdles to round out the Ram state qualifiers.

Glenwood nine state qualifiers is a 26-year high, said Rasmussen.
