The Glenwood wrestling team bounced back from first round struggles to earn fourth place at the Winterset Invitational on Saturday.
Joey Bryan (171 pounds) and Colin White (285) both earned second-place finishes in the tournament to lead the Rams.
After his team's early round stumbles, Glenwood coach Matt Dyer was happy to see his team rebound so strongly.
“We didn’t start off the day very well,” said Dyer. “We lost a lot of first-round matches and we had to play catch up on the backside. As the day went on the guys did a great job overcoming some adversity and they placed as high as they could.”
A.J. Clark (103), Nate Harms (112), Steve Gutschenritter (119) and Tyler Maxwell (135) placed third in their weight classes for Glenwood.
“Clark, Harms and Gutschenritter all wrestled very well in the semifinals but they all got beat,” said Dyer. “They were upset that they were beat, but they did an excellent job coming back and getting third. Clark had to come from being behind and on his back to win third. He showed a lot of guts fighting off his back and staying composed to win the match. Most guys would have given up.”
Dyer said Bryan and White both had good days making the finals at Winterset but both are still upset they got beat, which he thinks will motivate them for this week.
“This was probably the toughest tournament we have been at this year,” Dyer said. “There was a diverse group of teams that had some great individuals. I was pleased how we ended the day, but we need to be more consistent.”

Rams sweep Red Oak, T.J.
The Glenwood wrestling team improved to 13-2 on the season with a pair of dual wins over Red Oak and Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson on Thursday.
The Rams won 11 of 14 matches over the Tigers in the first dual for a 60-15 victory and capped the night with a 68-12 win over Thomas Jefferson.
“The guys looked pretty good tonight,” said Glenwood coach Matt Dyer. “We put some other people in the lineup tonight and I saw a lot of good things. Red Oak is short on numbers but they have a couple of solid kids. They guys did a good job in our first dual scoring the first points and looking for the fall.
“Thomas Jefferson has improved a lot from the past. They have some kids that are dangerous wrestlers and try to go for big moves. We did a good job stay with solid technique and scoring when the time as right. We were pretty aggressive in this dual and we need to continue to do that as the season moves on.”
A.J. Clark, Nate Harms, Steve Gutschenritter, Tyler Maxwell, Nick Uphoff, Trent Jameson, Joey Bryant and Colin White each won both of their matches in the double dual.
