Glenwood Family Dentistry, owned and operated by Dr. Paul Albertson, was started in the early 1970s by Dr. Dennis Gray who retired five years ago. The practice was previously housed at 514 First St.

“The other building was over 100 years old and had been kind of cobbled together,” Dr. Albertson said. “It wasn’t designed to be a dental office, so we always had to retrofit things to get it to work.

“We had talked about trying to expand over there, but with some zoning limitations, we weren’t able to push the building out any further. It was either stay there with what we had or make a move.”

Surprisingly, Dr. Albertson said, his new office is about the same size (just over 2,500 square feet) as the former location. However, much of the old building “went to waste because of the design.”

Before moving the practice, Dr. Albertson gave the old City Hall building a complete overhaul, inside and out. The new office has four doctor rooms and two hygiene rooms.

“If we needed to, we could probably add two more rooms at the end of the building,” Dr. Albertson said.

Dr. Albertson is currently the only dentist at the practice, but the building is equipped to handle a second doctor. His staff also consists of three dental hygienists, two dental assistants and a front office administrative assistant.

Glenwood Family Dentist-ry has been working from the new location since June 8. Patients have responded positively to the move.

“Everybody’s been real supportive of it,” Dr. Albertson said. “It’s nice to have something like this for  Glenwood. Glenwood’s been good to us, so it’s just nice to have something a little nicer than we had.”

The Glenwood Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a public coffee and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the office Thursday, Aug. 6, at 9:30 a.m.
