Glenwood continues dominance at Southern meet

The Glenwood Boys track team continued its dominance of the Hawkeye 10 Conference Southern Division Meet by winnings it third consecutive team title at Red Oak last Tuesday.

The Rams led from start to finish dominating nearly event, placing in the top three in all but two events and winning ten events at the meet.

“It was very windy, but we competed well,” said Glenwood coach Mark Starner. Returning veterans did outstanding and answered some questions with some youngsters. Specifically freshman Mitch Bowden in the shuttle hurdle relay, long jump and the 4x100-meter relay.

“It was really nice to get everyone into the meet and get out compete against other schools. We've got a good start to the season, but have a lot work to do before we can become a solid team to contend with.”

Bowden placed third in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, two inches and ran legs of the gold medal winning shuttle hurdle and 4x100-meter relay teams.

In all, the Rams' 4x800-meter, shuttle hurdle, 4x200-meter, distance medley and 4x400-meter relays teams all won gold. The Rams' 4x100-meter relay team was second.

Glenwood swept first and second in the long distance events with Mark Abrams and Jakob Rhodes taking first and second, respectively in the 3,200-meters and Johnny Fuller and Jordan Krug finishing first and second in the 1,600-meters.

Ian Eflin added a gold medal in the 110-meter hurdlers and the high jump.

Clayton Giesting finished first in the shot put and second in the discus.
